Game Consoles and TV

TV and game consoles are intertwined, just like bread and butter, bread and jam, or toast and tomato soup (I really like bread). Gaming systems are getting better and more versatile, the question is, are they going to radically change the TV industry and the way we watch TV?

Game console aficionados haven’t really seen a revolutionary change in gaming except for the Nintendo Wii that was released in 2006. The PS4 and the Xbox One are impressive machines, capable of handling beautiful and complicated games, but they don’t offer any impressive changes.

Up to this time, they’re still trying to push their consoles to be the only entertainment machine that you’ll need. For games, they’re really great, no doubt about that, but I don’t think they can replace other gadgets like personal computers, tablets, and the TV.

PCs and Macs are great for games. The keyboard and the mouse offer great mobility if you like playing first person shooting games. Typing with an actual physical keyboard and using a mouse is always the best with viewing websites, working, and messaging. They are also, bit by bit, replacing TV with the rise of Netflix, Hulu, and other streaming services.

Tablets and Cell phones are also great for messaging, playing games, watching videos, and listening to music. Game consoles are actually losing their customers to casual gaming due to the rise of these handheld gadgets. Plus, tablets and cell phones are portable.

The physical TVs (the appliance) are just staples of the living room or the entertainment room. There is no better way of spending your free time than watching your favorite show while sitting on a very comfy couch. They’re also required to use your computer and your consoles. So it’s safe to say that the electronic TV is here to stay.

The TV industry on the other hand is slowly dying. People are always inventing new ways on how to entertain people, and people always want to be entertained in different ways.

That’s the reason why tablets and smart phones have been so successful. People want the next big thing. Are gaming consoles the TV industry killer? No. At the present, they may have a few people who prefer to watch through their consoles. But for the next couple of years, the TV industry is never going anywhere, and if it eventually dies, it won’t be because of the PS4 and the Xbox One.

The latest gaming console from Sony, The Playstation4 or the PS4 has just been released in the United States and is now available for order for people living in other countries. Microsofts’ Xbox One will be out this Friday.
