The Americans Season 2 Character Futures: New Season Regulars

a

*SPOILER ALERT* (If you haven’t seen the entirety of ‘The Americans’ first season then I highly suggest that you stop reading.)

It seems like forever since I had my last fix of my favorite show ‘The Americans’. We all know that they have been renewed for season 2 (yes!) and they will air the episodes on January of 2014. All I can do now is just watch the re-runs, catch every witty line, revel in the dramatic scenes, and bask in the glory of the ever-so exhilarating fight scenes.

We all have our expectations and predictions for the 2nd season. Based from the current information that we’ve gathered, here are some of the things that we think might happen for the next installment of ‘The Americans’.

v

Susan Misner (Sandra Beeman) has been made a regular so we can expect her to either stay beside his secretive husband Stan or see her have enough and send Stan pack up and leave. We think that this promotion will give us more scenes where the love triangle of Nina, Stan, and Sandra are put on the spotlight. Sound likes a soap opera? Let’s just wait on how ‘The Americans’ will make this one unique and so much more exciting.

b

Annet Mahendru has also been promoted to a season regular which means that we will be seeing more of her character Nina. She’s not the scared, stereo selling secretary that we used to know. Due to Stan’s killing of Vlad, Nina transforms into this triple-agent who has been shown to have a renewed loyalty to her motherland, Russia. Is this transformation enough? Or would Stan Beeman be able to influence her once again? I really can’t wait to see how Nina will interact with Stan now that she has this strengthened resolve to serve her country.

t

The last actor to be promoted is Alison Wright. Her character, Martha brings some light-heartedness to the show because of all the tricky situations, hers is the least dangerous. It’s also fun to see that of all the players in the show, Martha seems to the one who is having the most fun since in her world, she is happily married to Clark. I agree with the people behind The Americans who included Alison as a series regular. I guess we’ll see more lovey-dovey situations between Martha and Clark, or will the secretary/loving wife start to have suspicions of her own?

Thinking about the possibilities of what these characters can do just made it harder for me to wait until January. Oh well, waiting will just make it so much better. See you on the next post!

  1. I didn’t know that a season 2 was confirmed, but I’m glad to hear it. This show has a unique vision. When I first saw the teasers on TV and in the theatre, I knew it would be something special and it took only 1 episode to confirm my hunch. Maybe next year, the Golden Globes or Emmy zombies will get their heads out of their collective asses and nominate this show.

    • Yep, season 2 is on the way, but it’s still so far away… Honestly, I can’t wait for the 2nd season! Let’s just hope that they can get nominated next year, fingers crossed! 🙂

  2. I thought that the character of Allison Wright already had some close calls, but I suppose love is blind and in her case it is topped off with a little bit of gullible. You could say that those scenes when they’re at home are the little bit of comic relief for the show. It is kind of amusing to watch how hubby keeps dodging close brushes with exposure.

  3. What is wrong with the judges who vote on the emmys ? Man the americans is the best show on the air and they give them a thumbs down . Instead they give it to some trashy show who hardly anyone over 20 watches ….ugh !!! well there is always next year right ? I wish the americans a long run .

    • Well, award shows are pretty political. We don’t exactly know why they didn’t nominate The Americans for other categories, but 1 thing is for sure, they have shown how poor their tastes are.

  4. That person you think you know well — someone in your family, someone in your neighborhood, someone in your bed — maybe you don’t really know them at all. That is kind of how I felt when I first saw Keri Russel play a hardened KGB operative. Actually, this isn’t the first time I felt that way about her and it isn’t her first mission. Her first was nearly impossible, playing next to Tom Cruise.

  5. I have never watched this show and they are on season two already? Do you happen to know if you can get season one on video so that I could watch the first season and then maybe understand what everyone was talking about. Thank you for posting the comments as well, sounds like some pretty grumpy people.

  6. One element that’s made season 1 of The Americans so appealing to me is its startlingly emotional (and sometimes bleak) observation of a modern American marriage involving two individuals who are essentially radical outsiders intent on upsetting the particular way of life they’ve inadvertently become accustomed to. Take out all of the intriguing spycraft, the hand-to-hand combat and the wigs, and you’d still have an incredibly compelling domestic drama, and that is an indication as to why the show is good.

    • The show runners always say that this show is centered on the Jennings. Great shows do have that feel, their great even without the add-ons, but when you realize that they do have extra stuff, it becomes so much more interesting.

  7. Fans of The Mericans can break out the borscht and raise a glass of Stoli: FX’s Cold War drama The Americans is officially a hit in the Nielsen ratings. I was doing some reading and found out that the 98-minute premiere drew 3.2 million viewers, a tick higher than the premiere of the network’s American Horror Story. Among FX’s target audience of viewers seem to be under 50. I know I’m a fan of the show and I’m in my 40’s.

  8. I am looking forward to this new season of Americans I watched it last season and actually liked it, I didn’t think I would and was pleasantly surprised. I am actually surprised because most of the time the get rid of anything with a political statement or background. I guess if it doesn’t go against the current powers that be then you can do anything.

  9. I like the sound tracks that they often play at the beginning and ending montages. It is obviously true to that time period. It certainly makes these sequences more dramatic and compelling. I look forward to the second season. I wonder how long this type of series can last (how many more seasons). I don’t see it going over 3 seasons. I hope I am wrong so we continue enjoying it.
