Edward Snowden’s Future with Anna Chapman

Edward Joseph Snowden is currently in Russia but his exact whereabouts is still unknown. The former computer analyst who worked for the NSA and CIA leaked top secret information about mass surveillance that is being done by the US government.

The issue of surveillance is a tricky one as it split the American public, its government leaders, and the most influential people into pro and anti groups. The former thinks Snowden is a traitor and should be punished, while the latter lauds him as a brave hero and a defender of the right to privacy.

One of Mr. Snowden’s supporters is Anna Chapman, the Russian spy who is part of the Illegals Program, a group of sleeper agents under non-official cover that were apprehended 2 years ago. Since Ms. Chapman’s arrest and prisoner swapping, she became an instant celebrity and re-ignited the world’s interest in espionage. Ms. Chapman has hosted her own show in Russia, posed for Maxim, became a fashion model and icon, a writer, and still manages to do some spy work on the side (in 2012 she almost captured one of President Obama’s cabinet members in a honey trap operation).

One of her latest antics is her marriage proposal to NSA leaker Edward Snowden. Ms. Chapman tweeted:

“Snowden, will you marry me?!”

Which was followed by another tweet:

“NSA, will you look after our children?”

When asked if she was serious or not she only said:

“you are welcome to use your imagination.”

The intent of Anna Chapman is still ambiguous but a combination of Snowden and Chapman is like a story that we can only read on spy novels. Things may be unclear but they sure are entertaining.

(The Illegals Program, in which Anna Chapman was included, was the inspiration of Joe Weisberg to create the hit FX show ‘The Americans’)
